Dr Hélène Svinos is an emergency medicine doctor with a passion for animals and has been blessed for the last 3 decades with the most amazing animal based teachers who have taught her to look outside the box of conventional health and find what was natural that could help when she was out of options with the medicine she was taught and was more familiar. Helene is a dog mum to 6 (3 of whom have a disability) as well as a cat and a bunny.

When her dog Toffee broke her back and became paraplegic a quest began to find out how she could optimise her health and well-being and see if there was more than conventional medicine alone. Toffee recovered well and Helene developed a new love of integrative medicine and championing those with disabilities.
Rehabilitating her reactive dog Treacle led Helene to work as a dog trainer throughout medical school as well as teaching and competing in a variety of dog sports. The much loved and missed Treacle and Toffee taught Helene a broad understanding of both the emotional and physical needs of our canine pals. After fostering and later adopting a blind dog called Inka, the discovery of using essential oils to help her fear led Helene to develop this interest further and connect with Dr Roark and the rest as they say is history.

Helene is qualified in Canine Massage Therapy, a Canine Arthritis Management Advocate Level 1 & has completed the Michael Shikashio Master Course In Dog Aggression.

Helene loves to run and is a Canicross Instructor and came 3rd in the XF category in the CaniX 2019/2020 season with her springers Evie, Rowan and Seren followed by 2nd in the following 2021/2022 season. The team has also won the Female Canicross category in the challenging Paras 10 race 3 times.

With scentwork training under her belt and Evie who also tracks missing dogs a lot of Helene’s life is taken up with the amazing world of aroma and she also uses this in her further studies to become a dog behaviourist . 

Helene also has a BEng Aerospace Engineering and an MSc in Impact and Explosion Engineering.

Recently I've been having some problems with my rescue dog, Storme, in the evening. She has been getting very stressed, panting, pacing, wanting to get outside and sit in the garden rather than be indoors. She is not a needy dog. I don't know how or why, but it seems the boiler is distressing her. After talking with Helene I decided to try some essential oils. "I just wanted to post to say how amazing Vetiver is....over the last couple of months weve been slowly building up odour memory with our youngest dog Tonks who has separation struggles and is generally a sensitive little soul. We moved house on friday and were worried that she would take a while to settle in the new house....thanks to Vetiver (and a touch of lavender and copaiba) she has settled in miraculously well!! Its actually been sprout (whos normally fairly bomb proof) that has struggled more with the move. I've popped some vetiver on her chest this evening (once I found the diluted bottle) and she's been spark out on the sofa ever since!!!"

I contacted Helene to help my Boston Terrier with his itchy. Having tried cytopoint, apoquel and other treatments over 5 years with no success he was suffering really badly- rashes, chewed paws, and red raw ears. Steroids were the only thing that brought him any relief but I didn’t want him on them forever – they made his coat and skin dry and changed his appetite and behaviour.
Helene advised on a programme of essential oils and natural supplements (I was a huge skeptic with nothing to lose) and some small dietary changes as he was already raw fed.
Wow is all I can say! His ears have not been infected since, the fur has grown back on them as he’s not scratching all the time and he sleeps through the night without constant discomfort.
We’ve enjoyed the summer with the least problems of seasonal threats he’s ever had! It did take a couple of months to find the right doses and regime that worked for him so if you’re new to it, trust the process!
Helene is an expert and went above and beyond to help. Couldn’t recommend highly enough or thank her enough to be honest.
